March 4-6, 2025 with Rebecca Mezoff

Class title: Color gradation techniques in tapestry weaving

Join Rebecca Mezoff for a three-day workshop in beautiful Arroyo Seco, New Mexico. In this class we’ll explore gradation techniques in tapestry weaving using Taos Wools’ churro fine tapestry yarn. We will be using a specially dyed selection of graded yarns made for us by Joe Barry of Taos Wools.

Rebecca utilizes a great deal of color gradation in her work. Being able to move color and use it effectively in different values is a great skill to have when working in contemporary tapestry. In this class we will explore various methods of grading color.  Color mixing techniques along with some color theory will be investigated. How to use these techniques in actual tapestries will be emphasized.

Experience required: For this workshop you must have woven some tapestry before. I’m assuming you can warp a loom and understand how to make basic forms in tapestry weaving using meet and separate.

Materials to bring:

Your normal weaving tools to include tapestry loom, tapestry fork, shed stick, yarn needle, scissors. Please bring a color wheel if you have one. Loaner Mirrix Saffron looms are available if you need one. Full materials list will be sent to the class in February.

Materials provided
