Master Weaver Joseph Young will be leading this 3-day class at the Taos Wools classroom in Arroyo Seco NM.
In this workshop you will learn traditional Zapotec tapestry designs such as geometric diamonds, grecas and mountainitas. You will draw inspiration from past and present to create a unique contemporary piece.

Each day class starts at 9 AM with an hour break for lunch at noon. We wrap up the day at 4 PM all three days.

Joseph (Joey) Young is trained in traditional Zapotec style of weaving, also having studied tapestry and pattern weaving. Learning from Master weaver Zenon Hipolito, a 7th generation Zapotec weaver from Teotitlan del valle, Zenon passed on many traditional techniques and styles to Joey, which he uses to this day to create wonderfully woven pieces.
His influences come heavily from southwest designs (Navajo/Dine, Chimayo and Pueblo style weaving) and Zapotec designs. Joey says “I am very drawn to nature and love weaving animals when I get a chance to”.
